Why study Cert III in Individual Support?
This qualification describes the duties of individuals who work in residential and/or community settings and adhere to individualized plans to give person-centered support to individuals who may need assistance due to age, disability, or other factors. Work requires making decisions and exercising judgment regarding individual support as well as accepting accountability for one’s own outputs. Workers possess a variety of factual, technical, and procedural knowledge in addition to some theoretical understanding of the principles and procedures necessary to offer person-centered care.
The candidate must have finished at least 120 hours of work, as specified in the assessment requirements for the units of competency, to acquire this qualification.
This qualification does not currently have any licencing, legal, regulatory, or certification requirements.

- Evaluation: One of experienced RPL ADVISOR consultants can conduct a free, no-obligation RPL skills check.
- Your Experience: Compiling and submitting your ‘Experience Portfolio’, which includes photographs and videos of you on the job, references, past credentials, and your latest resume, among other things.
- RTO Reviews the Evidence: Using an RPL assessment, a certified assessor from one of our collaborating RTOs can review the evidence and decide whether you are competent in the units for that certification.
- Interview: If all supporting documents meet the requirement of the desired qualification, then the RTO may take your interview.
- Your Certificate: If the RTO determines that you are qualified in all relevant units of competency, the Registered Training Organisation will grant you a certificate.
Cert III in Individual Support
Total number of units = 13
- 7 core units
- 6 elective units, consisting of:
- at least 4 units from the electives listed below, at least 2 units must be from those units listed under Groups A, B or C
- up to 2 units from the electives listed below, any endorsed Training Package or accredited course – these units must be relevant to the work outcome
Any combination of electives that meets the rules above can be selected for the award of the Certificate III in Individual Support. Where appropriate, electives may be packaged to provide a qualification with a specialisation.
Packaging for each specialisation:
All Group A electives must be selected for award of the Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) and all remaining electives must be selected from Group D.
All Group B electives must be selected for award of the Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability).
At least four units from Group C electives must be selected for award of the Certificate III in Individual Support (Home and Community).
Where two specialisations are completed award of the qualification would read Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing, Home and Community).
All electives chosen must contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome.
