This certification represents the position of a worker who are skilled in the civil construction industry utilizing a variety of abilities in work contexts while applying some judgment and discretion and employing pertinent theoretical knowledge.

The certification is important to jobs in bituminous surfacing, building bridge and it’s maintenance, laying pipe, construction of road and its maintenance, road marking, construction of tunnel, construction of timber bridge and its maintenance, traffic management and general civil construction. A team may receive theoretical counsel from the individual.

FIVE Steps to get your qualification?
The following are the five steps involved in obtaining a desired qualification through RPL:
  1. Evaluation: One of experienced RPL ADVISOR consultants can conduct a free, no-obligation RPL skills check.
  2. Your Experience: Compiling and submitting your ‘Experience Portfolio’, which includes photographs and videos of you on the job, references, past credentials, and your latest resume, among other things.
  3. RTO Reviews the Evidence: Using an RPL assessment, a certified assessor from one of our collaborating RTOs can review the evidence and decide whether you are competent in the units for that certification.
  4. Interview: If all supporting documents meet the requirement of the desired qualification, then the RTO may take your interview.
  5. Your Certificate: If the RTO determines that you are qualified in all relevant units of competency, the Registered Training Organisation will grant you a certificate.
Packaging Rules

Cert III in Civil Construction

The following provides the packaging rules for this qualification, followed by the list of relevant units of competency.

There are no prerequisites to imported units listed in this qualification.

The qualification has core and elective units of competency that cover the skills for the following eight (8) specialist and one (1) general Civil construction streams:

Stream 1 – Bituminous Surfacing

Stream 2 – Bridge Construction and Maintenance

Stream 3 – Pipe Laying

Stream 4 – Road Construction and Maintenance

Stream 5 – Road Marking

Stream 6 – Tunnel Construction

Stream 7 – Timber Bridge Construction and Maintenance

Stream 8 – Traffic Management

Stream 9 – Civil Construction General

The core and elective unit requirements of one (1) stream must be met for this qualification to be awarded.

All elective units selected for this qualification must reflect current occupational and learning outcomes of this AQF qualification level.

There are both licensed and non-licensed units of competency relating to high risk work in the Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package. To be appointed under any statutory requirements in related roles, units of competency should be selected to meet the state/territory licensing requirements.

There are prerequisites to imported units listed in this qualification. Where a unit is imported as an elective care must be taken to ensure that all prerequisites specified are complied with.

Requirements for completion of Stream 1 – Bituminous Surfacing  include:

Total number of units = 25

7 core units  plus

18 elective units,  of which:

  • seven (7) must be chosen from Group A
  • at least three (3) must be chosen from Group B
  • at least three (3) must be chosen from Group C
  • no more than five (5) may be chosen from elsewhere within this training package, or from another endorsed training package, or from an accredited course.

Requirements for completion of Stream 2 – Bridge Construction and Maintenance  include:

Total number of units = 25

7 core units  plus

18 elective units,  of which:

  • eight (8) must be chosen from Group D
  • at least two (2) must be chosen from Group E
  • at least three (3) must be chosen from Group F
  • no more than five (5) may be chosen from elsewhere within this training package, or from another endorsed training package, or from an accredited course.

Requirements for completion of Stream 3 – Pipe Laying  include:

Total number of units = 25

7 core units  plus

18 elective units,  of which:

  • ten (10) must be chosen from Group G
  • at least one (1) must be chosen from Group H
  • at least three (3) must be chosen from Group I
  • no more than four (4) may be chosen from elsewhere within this training package, or from another endorsed training package, or from an accredited course.

Requirements for completion of Stream 4 – Road Construction and Maintenance  include:

Total number of units = 25

7 core units  plus

18 elective units,  of which:

  • nine (9) must be chosen from Group J
  • at least two (2) must be chosen from Group K
  • at least two (2) must be chosen from Group L
  • no more than five (5) may come from elsewhere within this training package, or from another endorsed training package, or from an accredited course
  • at least five (5) of the eighteen (18) elective units chosen must be road construction and maintenance (RIICRC) units.

Requirements for completion of Stream 5 – Road Marking  include:

Total number of units = 22

7 core units  plus

15 elective units,  of which:

  • four (4) must be chosen from Group M
  • at least one (1) must be chosen from Group N
  • at least six (6) must be chosen from Group O
  • no more than four (4) may come from elsewhere within this training package, or from another endorsed training package, or from an accredited course
  • at least seven (7) of the fifteen (15) elective units chosen must be road marking (RIICRM) units.

Requirements for completion of Stream 6 – Tunnel Construction  include:

Total number of units = 25

7 core units  plus

18 elective units,  of which:

  • eight (8) must be chosen from Group P
  • at least three (3) must be chosen from Group Q
  • at least two (2) must be chosen from Group R
  • no more than five (5) may come from elsewhere within this training package, or from another endorsed training package, or from an accredited course.
  • at least two (2) of the eighteen (18) elective units chosen must be tunnel construction (RIICTC) units.

Requirements for completion of Stream 7 – Timber Bridge Construction and Maintenance  include:

Total number of units = 28

7 core units  plus

21 elective units,  of which:

  • twelve (12) must be chosen from Group S
  • at least two (2) must be chosen from Group T
  • at least two (2) must be chosen from Group U
  • no more than five (5) may be chosen from elsewhere within this training package, or from another endorsed training package, or from an accredited course.

Requirements for completion of Stream 8 – Traffic Management  include:

16 elective units,  of which:

  • eight (8) must be chosen from Group V
  • at least two (2) must be chosen from Group W,
