What is the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)?

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process used to evaluate knowledge and skills acquired through various formal, informal, and non-formal means, whether in Australia or internationally. To qualify for RPL, individuals must furnish evidence demonstrating their proficiency matching the requirements of the Nationally Recognised Qualification (NRQ) they are pursuing.

RPL entails an assessment procedure wherein a Recognised Training Organisation (RTO) assesses and acknowledges an individual’s prior learning and knowledge. It provides an avenue for individuals to receive formal recognition, equivalent to Australian Qualifications, based on their previously acquired knowledge and experience. This recognition facilitates the tracking of educational and career advancement.

    THE RPL ASSESSMENT MUST:

    1. Be validated by an Academic Staff member from an RTO with expertise in the specific subject matter, knowledge, and skills.
    2. Include authentic and sufficient evidence of prior learning to authenticate and verify the individual’s experience.
    3. Recognize knowledge, regardless of how, when, or where it was acquired.
